Spring Basics

CamiDresses
Spring is here and I thought since we’re all stuck inside I’d share what I think are basic pieces to have in your spring wardrobe. I’ve broken them down into four categories, cami dresses layered over t-shirts, long sleeve dresses, midi skirts, and accessories.

Let’s start with my favorite, cami dresses with t-shirts. This look will help you transition your more summery dresses into your spring (and even fall) wardrobe. I’ve found that this layered look works best with dresses that thin (cami) straps and somewhat higher necklines, like a square neck. A subtle scoop or v-neck works well too. For t-shirts, the more fitted it is the better. You don’t want excess fabric bunching up and sticking out at your armpits or back.

Extra Style Points: wear this with a choker and sneakers or kitten heels for that 90’s look.

LongSleeveDresses
If you love wearing dresses as much as I do, then long sleeve dresses are a must in your wardrobe. They’re great for those chillier spring days when you want to wear a dress but the t-shirt/cami dress option just isn’t warm enough. If your long sleeve dress has a high enough neckline you can even get away with layering a basic tank top underneath for extra warmth and no one would be the wiser.

Extra Style Points: wear this with a layered necklace and felted hat to look more put-together.

MidiSkirts
Midi skirts have been growing in popularity lately so I thought there was no way I could leave them out of my round up of spring basics. They’re surprisingly versatile and can easily be dressed up or down depending on what top and shoes you pair them with.

Extra Style Points: wear this with a band tee or graphic tee to look cool and modern.

SpringAccessories
There are three key spring accessories that I think everyone should have in their wardrobe. The first being a good jacket. Moto jackets and denim jackets are my favorite, and to make them more spring appropriate try buying them in a lighter color. Like a blush or grey moto jacker, or a white or light wash denim jacket. Next up, we have slides. You’ll start to come across warm weather more frequently and slides are a great way to immediately dress up a look without taking any effort. Lastly, we have rain boots. If your spring is filled with rain and melting slushy snow like mine, then these will be a life saver. You can get the standard black knee high boots, or you can get them in a fun springy color like white, grey, or mauve. I think you’ll be surprised at how often you’ll be able to wear spring colored rain boots, just imagine how they would look with any of the other items I linked here today. I’d personally love to pair the white rain boots with one of the three gingham dresses.
